10 Most Bizarre Doctor Who Moments

4. The Doctor In The Matrix (The Deadly Assassin)

Classic Who may have had some weak visual effects, but it was also bizarre in a good way. A great example of this is in yet another Fourth Doctor serial, The Deadly Assassin, in which the Doctor wanders through the Time Lord Matrix and comes face-to-face with some unusual, yet uniquely disturbing sights and sounds.

Upon entering said Matrix, he's greeted by a bespectacled surgeon holding an enormous syringe, who gives way to a gas mask-wearing soldier on a raging battlefield, which then turns into a train track in the jungle. Here, the Doctor's foot is trapped between the rails, as a trio of creepy train drivers silently watches on.

The madness then continues after the Doctor escapes the train tracks. First, he finds himself in a good ol' Doctor Who quarry, where he steps on a giant egg. His surroundings then bend and contort as a circuitboard appears before him, resulting in a pair of eyes appearing in a nearby cliff, and a clown laughing at him from a reflective surface in the ground.

It's a much more outlandish portrayal of the Matrix than the sterile room we saw in the Series 12 finale, but this also makes it far more interesting to watch.

He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
