Steven Moffat's season 5 two-parter The Time of Angels/Flesh and Stone is arguably one of his best yet most controversial stories during his time as showrunner.

Perhaps the most notorious - albeit unintentional - controversy occurred during Matt Smith's dramatic monologue in the final few minutes of The Time of Angels as an animated Graham Norton danced across the screen advertising his new show Over The Rainbow. While this was an unintentional goof from the BBC it still attracted thousands of complaints and was mocked on Twitter by the likes of Simon Pegg and Charlie Brooker.

However, it was Flesh and Stone which featured two divisive plot points that rubbed some up the wrong way. The first was the decision to show the previously static Weeping Angles moving at the climax of the episode. While it was a bold decision to reveal this mystery it was ultimately disappointing to find out that the silent assassins move exactly like we do.

The final polarising moment was the last scene of the episode when Amy Pond basically proposed a one night stand with the Doctor. This divided opinion with some noting it was the 21st century so people should not be shaming her for this but others pointing out it was quite a strange plot point for a family show and played into the sexualised strippogram image of Amy we had been sold throughout the series.
