The death of Doctor Daniel Jackson is perhaps Stargate's most controversial episode, but the episode in which Stargate attempted to replace Jackson is almost just as controversial to fans of SG-1.

The first episode of season six saw the character of Jonas Quinn join Stargate command, and later SG-1. Quinn was actually the reason Dr. Jackson died in the show, so instantly many fans rejected the character's attempts to seek redemption for his previous actions.

While the members of SG-1 eventually accepted Jonas as a member of their team, the fans were still bitter over the loss of one of their all-time favorite characters. Redemption took place right after the episode where Dr. Jackson died, so the wounds of his loss were still fresh when the series introduced Jonas as his replacement.

It's not uncommon for characters in movies or TV to try and seek redemption for their actions, especially if it leads to a main character's death. SG-1 just tried to move on too quickly for fans and as such created a real controversial start to their sixth season.
