Dr. Janet Fraiser was one of SG1's longest-running side characters. To many fans and even most of the actors, she was as much a main character as Tealc and jack O' Neill. Dr. Fraiser saved live lives of countless members of Stargate command, including SG-1 seemingly once a week.

That's why her sudden death in the eighteenth episode of the seventh season was so controversial. Dr. Fraiser was beloved for her grace under pressure, her kindness, and moral support to many of the main characters across her seventy-episode run.

In the second part of the Heroes storyline, many Stargate teams are ambushed by Goa'uld soldiers and many characters are hit, including Jack O' Niell. The episode itself was even hyped up by one of the series' main writers, teasing that there would be character death.

Many assumed it would be O' Niell, but instead it was revealed that it was in fact Dr. Fraiser who would die, saving as many lives as she could in the middle of a major firefight.

Dr. Fraiser's death was controversial not only for fans but the series' writers and actors too. The actor who played General Hammond, David S. Davis, even referred to whoever decided to kill Dr. Fraiser off as "some stupid bean counter".

Dr. Fraiser's death, though not the most controversial Stargate death, still upset many fans. It was so sudden and happened off-screen, seemingly just writing off the character for no real reason beyond showing the writer's willingness to kill off main characters.
