Colonel Samantha Carter is easily one of sci-fi's most badass female characters. Her witty humor, sense of honor and camaraderie, and proficiency in combat made her an instant fan-favorite among the members of SG-1.

This is why so many fans of SG-1 have come to hate the fourth episode of the first season, during which Carter is forced to be a concubine of sorts for a cruel human warlord on a planet stylized in a similar fashion to ancient Mongolia.

The women of this planet's culture were not allowed to show their faces, were forced to wear oversexualized hijabs and were also expected to be subservient to the men, especially the overlord.

The weirdest part of all this was the rest of SG-1's nonchalant reaction to their teammate being captured and forced to submit to a male-centered culture.

While the episode is all about Carter leading a female uprising and getting her revenge on the male overlord, fans were quick to hate the blatant sexism towards the only female on SG-1's main team along with the other women of this episode.

Many episodes of Stargate's first season had this problem, and by today's standards, the portrayal of female characters in SG-1 and Atlantis left much to be desired.

Many Stargate fans simply skip this episode now, in favor of much better episodes in SG-1 and even Atlantis where Carter is given the chance to truly be the hero of the galaxy that she is, without being the object of male fan's fantasies.
