4. The Replicator Weir Goes Through The Gate

The 'return' of Elizabeth Weir in Stargate Atlantis's fifth season was a bittersweet event. Unfortunately, Torri Higginson declined to reprise the role for the episode, as she had been frustrated with the underuse of her character and the seeming apathy coming from the producers and writers when she rose this topic.

She was replaced in the episode Ghost In The Machine by Michelle Morgan, who had previously appeared as an android in the series. She led a group of human form replicators, intent on ascending by digital means.

Over the course of the episode, the standard threats arise but it seems that, by the episode's end, the Atlantis expedition and the Replicators have, at the very least, come to a grudging understanding. Weir accepts the Atlantis expeditions offer to send them to a safe world. Though the other Replicators are suspicious, Weir offers to go first through the gate, to show them that all is well.

They all go through and find themselves drifting in space, having been sent to a space-gate. The episode closes on Weir's open eyes, floating away forever in the vacuum.
