To further continue the horrible sight of Appa being captured comes an entire episode dedicated to what happens to him whilst he is away from team Avatar. It is precisely as emotional as it sounds, as we see him go through many different places and undergo way more hardships than any expected to see in a children's show.

It comes as no surprise that this series which tackles almost every sociological issue would dedicate an episode to the mistreatment of animals. The concept of nature throughout the show is incredibly prevalent, and thus a look at how humanity affects wildlife is terribly fitting.

Not only does this episode give us an eye into what Appa goes through, but we get to see his first meeting with Aang, which only stems to reinforce the heartache further.

Balancing - as the show so often does - moments of adorable imagery with harsh reality makes this entire twenty minute run time tug your heartstrings in multiple different directions.

This was a great moment for the show, as it allowed the audience the time and maturity to witness the uncomfortable nature of what happened to one of the most lovable characters without shying away from the darker elements.
