Season one of Avatar is an intriguing first delve into a show, as it comes across instantly as a charming world that could be a lot of fun to see, and the characters are likeable enough to keep watching.

But in many cases the reputation this show has heralded - as an unforgettable experience - likely would remain alien to new viewers for a few episodes at least. This moment, however, is one of the first to show why this series truly is remarkable.

Aang is so excited throughout to see the Southern Air Temple, only for Katara and Sokka to be hesitant to reveal the fate of the air nomads to him. This reveal comes upon him finding his former mentor's skeleton, and realising he truly is the last airbender in the world.
