6. Arya And Nymeria
For a while there, we were losing direwolves left and right, but we never quite gave up hope that once Arya returned to Westeros, she and Nymeria would be reunited. We never thought it would be like this, though.
Direwolves are tightly bonded to their owners, and we often saw evidence of an almost psychic link between the Stark children and their big furry dogs. So one would assume that if Nymeria happened upon Arya in the woods, they would fall back into the relationship they had years earlier and everything would be the same.
Only it's not. Because, as we all have to learn at some point, no matter how much you might want to, you can never go back. Nymeria is now the leader of a wolf pack, and although she stops short of actually hurting Arya, she makes it clear that she's living her own life now and has no intention of being Arya's sidekick again.
They have grown apart, and that's ok. Regardless, it gives both Arya and the audience a tremendous sense of closure for the two to meet again and part on amicable terms.
