10 Most Emotional Moments In It's A Sin

8. Gloria's Illness

It's A Sin
Channel 4

David Carlyle puts on an excellent portrayal of bus conductor Gregory (affectionately known as Gloria by his friends) who, while never specified, has clearly found the confidence to be himself a bit later in life and enjoys the company of his friends to help him relive his youth in the way he wanted.

It's in episode two that the threat of AIDS starts to become real, and it is Gloria who we sadly see go through this experience first-hand as he falls ill, and begins to realise that his days might be numbered.

The particular moment that stands out is when he asks Jill (the de facto mother of the group, played expertly by Lydia West) to start doing his shopping and for her not to come near him. The look on his face says it all as he becomes terrified by the thought of having AIDS. It's at this point we know his story is not going to have a happy outcome.
