One of the most attention-grabbing and unavoidably controversial projects announced in March was Expiration Date, a new drama series starring Will Forte as Robin, a grief-stricken man who takes out an insurance policy on his life, with the provision that he doesn't commit suicide inside of one year.

The show will be focused on the suicidally despondent Robin counting down the year until he can kill himself without invalidating the policy, and all that happens within those 12 months.

Unsurprisingly the show's scandalous premise evoked strong reactions from the public, with suicide-prevention groups calling the show "wildly irresponsible," especially conceived as it is during a period of record-low mental health for most countries around the world.

Nevertheless, tone and execution are incredibly important, and one suspects the show will ultimately be a life-positive piece of work as Robin comes to realise his worth on the planet.

Above all else, Forte proved his acting chops beyond any doubt in his acclaimed series The Last Man on Earth, so hopefully he'll channel some of the same energy here.
