10 Most Exciting New Movies & TV Shows Just Announced (March 2021)

Just announced new movies and TV shows. Ghost of Tsushima, Zatanna & more!

Ghost of Tsushima Jin
Sony Interactive Entertainment

Though the world has been ground to a halt over the last year, the entertainment industry has continued to forge ahead producing content - with strict COVID-19 precautions, of course - and in recent months in particular, numerous tantalising projects have been announced for imminent production.

This past month saw many extremely appealing films and TV shows confirmed for the future, whether they're already ramping up to shoot or are still in the earlier stages of pre-production.

And no, before you ask, the recently announced new trio of Game of Thrones spin-off series aren't on this list, because didn't that damn finale just suck up everyone's enthusiasm for more Thrones content?

These 10 projects represent the most intriguing and potential-rich works of cinema and TV confirmed for production over the past month.

Regardless of whether they end up on screens big or small - or perhaps even both - they're filled to the brim with promise to deliver diverting and unforgettable drama like we've never seen before.

If even half of these works live up to the talents of the writers, directors, and actors involved, they're sure to leave fans very happy indeed...

10. Zatanna

Ghost of Tsushima Jin
DC Comics

There have been numerous announced attempts to bring DC superhero Zatanna to the big screen over the last 15 years, with initial rumours even suggesting the character would appear in James Gunn's The Suicide Squad - claims he has since rubbished.

But it was just recently confirmed that a new Zatanna solo movie is in the works with Promising Young Woman writer-director Emerald Fennell penning the script and possibly also directing.

Fennell became one of just seven women to ever receive a Best Director Oscar nomination for her work on the aforementioned film and is widely-tipped to win the Best Original Screenplay Oscar in the coming weeks, so it's little surprise she's receiving lavish tentpole offers such as this.

It's clear to see how Fennell's sensibilities could lend themselves extremely well to an outwardly feminist riff on the underappreciated hero, whose magical abilities - namely speaking incantations backwards to manifest her desires - are innately cinematic.

No word on casting yet and the project is clearly still in its early stages, but this is nothing if not an exciting next step for both Fennell and DC movies in general.
