10 Most Expensive TV Shows Of All Time
3. The Crown - $13 Million Per Episode
The Crown is Netflix's portrayal of the life of Queen Elizabeth II. The show started on Netflix in 2016 and has currently run for 3 seasons, with 2 more on the way. The show covers The Queen's life from 1947 and her marriage through to the early 21st Century.
The budget of the show has been reported as $130 million dollars for the first season, with money going on lavish sets and costumes that seem as extravagant as the clothing and housing of the royal family. Reportedly $35,000 was spent just on recreating the Queen's wedding dress for the show.
The series has changed casts after season 2 with Claire Foy being replaced as The Queen by Olivia Colman. Whether or not this has affected the budget, Colman coming off of her Oscar win for the favourite in 2018, in unclear. The show has cost a lot, but with the sets already built, it is likely that the budget is mainly going on costume and salaries now, so it is unlikely that the extreme costs are rising with the newer seasons.
The Crown remains one of Netflix's most expensive TV shows and looks like it is sticking around till season 5, with large viewing figure coming in throughout its 3 seasons.
