10 Most Hated Parks And Recreation Episodes

9. Ben's Parents (Season 5, Episode 6)

Parks And Recreation
NBC

Meeting the family of a beloved character always makes for a good episode. Shows tend to make parents awful in one way or another, usually as a way to add drama to an episode. Primarily, they serve as the reason for the personal or emotional issues the protagonist has. However, this is not the case for Ben, whose parents do not explain why he is the way he is.

The episode Ben’s Parent’s takes place just before Leslie and Ben’s wedding. In Leslie's fashion, she makes a unity quilt to bridge the gap between Ben's estranged parents. The quilt is unveiled at the engagement party and Ben's parents throw a childlike fit about it.

What's confusing about meeting Ben's parents is that we think we may get to know Ben better. Yet, we know his insecurities come from his failure as an 18-year-old mayor, which is constantly mentioned throughout the series. As a result, we see him take his job seriously and desire for others to look at him as a reliable person.

So we assume Ben must have been a pretty confident and well-adjusted teenager. The parents we meet certainly don't seem capable of raising such an awesome 18 year old, even if that teenager's creation was Ice Town. We hope to like or at least be entertained by Ben's parents, not disappointed.
