10 Most Horrifying Serial Killers On TV

5. Twisty The Clown (American Horror Story: Freak Show)

Twisty certainly has the prize for most terrifying first impression factor on lock down. He wins hands down for being the most obvious deranged serial killer upon first glance. Whenever you blow your bottom jaw completely apart with a shotgun (whoops!) and choose to replace it with a dirty, over-sized ghoulish plastic smile, you have chosen a specific path. Good old Twisty didn't really have a full deck to play with from the get go. He was literally dropped on his head as a baby, was framed by jealous circus workers for molesting children during his early days as a professional clown and a failure at his next career; selling his "whirlygigs" to local toy stores. After failing to commit suicide with a shotgun blast to the jaw, he decided to make children remember and love Twisty The Clown again. The obvious method for attaining their adoration is by kidnapping them, murdering their parents and forcing them to watch his circus act from hell until they starve. Standard. John Carroll Lynch plays the deranged clown in a way that only he could. Lynch manages to portray an unbelievable level of emotion and depth all while being mute and having only his eyes to work with. That shows chutzpah. There are even times when Lynch's sorrowful eyes and sometimes childlike movements manage to draw the viewer into a weird feeling of pseudo sympathy for his character. Twisty can force the audience to question themselves and that's a rare character triumph. Not many actors can manage to make your feel for a horrific serial killer clown with half a face. Lynch seems to do it seamlessly.
