10 Most Iconic Alien Planets In Modern Doctor Who

5. Midnight

A shining Leisure Planet made of diamonds, Midnight was bathed in X-tonic rays from its blue sun. This made for a breathtaking sight, despite it being lethal to lifeforms... but not all of them.

Inhospitable on the surface because of its harsh environment, the planet had been colonised by humanity who lived and worked in biodomes and Pleasure Palaces. Trying to capitalise on the stunning location and attract tourists and sightseers, the Pleasure Palaces were established as intergalactic travel hotspots.

Included in these Pleasure Palaces were spas, anti-gravity restaurants (with bibs) and Crusader Tours in shielded all-terrain vehicles across the planet's deadly surface.

It was on Midnight that the Tenth Doctor faced an unknown threat which seemed to be able to survive the sunlight. With the Crusader bus originally heading to see the picturesque Sapphire Waterfall, a detour around a diamond-fall instead brought the mysterious creature to the Doctor in the eponymous 2008 episode.

Somehow entering the craft and possessing one of the passengers without being seen, the creature from Midnight baffled the Doctor - and audiences.

Following the Doctor almost being thrown out onto the planet's surface by the Crusader's suspicious and paranoid fellow passengers, the possessed tourist was instead ejected into the X-tonic rays and the creature was destroyed.

Intergalactic Travel Advice: Tourists spoil ruin your experience.
