10 Most Inappropriate Moments In Buffy The Vampire Slayer

There are many reasons to watch Buffy the Vampire Slayer. The odd premise, the quirky characters, the mishmash of genres, and the ‘90s nostalgia are all central to the show’s distinct identity.

But above all, it’s the stellar writing that elevates the show to such a high level. With creator Jess Whedon at the helm, the Buffy writers crafted an exceptional story that followed our characters across seven unique seasons. In fact, the show is so well written that ‘Buffy Studies’ has even become a part of modern academia.

Still, the Scooby Gang’s adventures have their fair share of problems. Every season (including the near-perfect Season 3) has a spectrum of quality. And whilst most of the weaker episodes tend to be forgettable rather than bad, there are plenty of inappropriate moments scattered throughout the show.

These include out-of-character decisions, tonal inconsistencies, various sexual exploits, and even combinations of all three. The sixth episode of Season 7 is much more light-hearted than the rest. The story involves a high school student named RJ and his supernatural ability to charm women.

Buffy, who now works at Sunnydale High as a school councillor, is also seduced by RJ’s charm. In the midst of an ordinary school day, the pair of them sneak off to an empty classroom and can’t keep their hands off each other.

The silly tone of the episode saves this moment from being a total disaster, but no one can deny it’s inappropriate. Sure, Buffy isn’t much older than RJ, but it’s the teacher-student dynamic that makes this an uncomfortable scene to watch.
