10 Most Inappropriate Moments In Star Trek: Deep Space Nine

6. Kira Almost Killing Her Mom

Don't kill your mother. Even if she had an affair with Gul Dukat, just don't do it.

"Wrongs Darker than Death or Night" opens with the sickening possibility that Dukat and Kira's mother were lovers during the Occupation of Bajor. In a bid to learn the truth, Kira uses the Bajoran Orb of Time to travel back to when the Cardassians ruled Deep Space Nine. Kira soon meets her mother, Meru, and the two of them are picked to serve as comfort women for the Cardassians. I think I'm gonna be sick.

Dukat woos Meru with the promise of providing her family with much-needed food and medical supplies, yet Kira sees her as nothing more than a collaborator betraying her own people. Enraged, Kira hatches a plan to assassinate Dukat with a bomb, even if her own mother is caught in the crossfire. What part of not killing your mother does she not understand?

But after hearing a message from her father thanking Meru for saving the lives of him and their children, Kira backs out at the last moment, realizing that perhaps the distinction between resistance and betrayal isn't so straightforward.

"Wrongs Darker than Death or Night" is a wonderful showpiece for Kira that added layers of ambiguity to her character's sense of justice. Unfortunately, these positives can't make up for Kira's initial willingness to murder her own mother. That's just too much.
