10 Most Inappropriate Moments In Star Trek: The Original Series

1. Captain Pike's Fantasy - The Cage

We've already mentioned the original rejected pilot for Star Trek, and the strange fact that it is considered canon despite never airing for a full 24 years after it was made. We can understand why, as the episode goes to some weirdly uncomfortable places.

When original Enterprise Captain Christopher Pike is captured by a group of alien zoologists, they examine the effects of their mind-bending illusions on him. They create an idyllic imaginary world for Pike to live in, along with his ideal wife named Vina. Vina is timid, subservient, and frightened - when Pike asks her why she is this way, she responds "because that's the way you imagined me."

When this isn't enough for Pike, the aliens reach deeper into his mind, to discover his true desires. They give him the life he really wanted, making him a space Lord who spends his days lounging with his friends and watching Vina dance, who now appears as a green-skinned alien slave girl. One of Pike's friends, who happens to be the creepiest looking man in the world, makes sure to let the audience know that Vina's entire race of alien slave girls "actually like being taken advantage of."

Besides these disturbing glimpses into Pike's mind, this episode raises a fun theory: what if he never escaped, and everything that has happened to him since is just an illusion? This would mean that Star Trek Discovery Season 2 never actually happened, which, honestly, a lot of Star Trek fans would probably be okay with.
