7. Tony Almeida Has Lost His Mind - Season 7
Ever since fans saw Tony (Carlos Bernard) "die" at the midpoint of Day Five, there had always been a doubt that this was the last they'd seen of Mister Almeida; especially since the show didn't even grace Tony's passing with the respectful silent clock.
Day Seven proved the sceptics right, and Tony Almeida emerged from the shadows as a resurrected enforcer for an American terrorist group. Bringing Tony back was good, and having him as a villain made sense given the last time fans saw him. Jack and Tony go toe-to-toe for the first quarter of Day Seven, but not for long as it is revealed Tony was actually working undercover with former members of a disbanded CTU - comprised of Bill Buchanan and Chloe O'Brian.
With the gang all back together, Tony is on the side of the CTU angels once again and 24 fans everywhere were bouncing in their seats like excited schoolchildren...
That is until in another shock twist; not only was Tony betraying his CTU buddies once again, but he had completely lost his mind and was planning to harvest a deadly pathogen from an infected Jack, and use it as bait to lure in the head of the same conspiracy that killed his wife two seasons prior. All his actions since being exposed were to win the trust of an elusive and careful organisation.
Given that Tony was on the side of the good guys (especially Jack) it's wild that he didn't include anyone else in his plan. Oh well, live and learn with half a dozen bullets in you, eh Tony?
