10 Most Messed Up Steven Universe Moments

7. Frybo

The fifth episode of season 1, "Frybo" starts out innocently enough.

Steven can't find his pants. Pearl is looking for a missing Gem shard that can bring clothing to life (oddly specific). After Pearl leaves, Steven finds his pants walking around the house and gives chase. Tackling his pants and putting them on, he finds the shard Pearl was looking for, so he heads out in search of her.

Heading to the boardwalk of Beach City, Steven bumps into Peedee Fryman, the son of the fry shop owner, wearing a mascot character costume named Frybo. Peedee confesses to Steven he hates wearing the costume. After a failed attempt at Steven wearing the costume, Steven places the Gem Shard in the costume, bringing it to life. Peedee orders the costume to make people eat fries and runs off with Steven to spend a day having fun on the boardwalk.

Thus begins the continuous nightmare imagery the living costume can't help but sear into unknowing watcher's brains. The costume is a giant box of fries with large, lifeless eyes and a grin that gives the Joker a run for his money. Once alive, Frybo grows legs made of fries and takes his orders to the literal extreme, shoving fries into the mouths of any unlucky to be caught by its fry-like tentacle hair.

At one point Pearl arrives, realizes her shard is in the costume, and throws her spear into the costume's eye. This only succeeds in a power stream of ketchup and mustard erupting from the wound and blinding Pearl. Now with ketchup oozing from its wounded eye, Frybo's unnerving smile sends chills up spines.

Luckily, Steven is able to subdue the beast by placing the remaining Gem Shards in his clothes and Frybo's reign of greasy destruction comes to an end. The costume is sent off on a boat, set on fire, and Frybo is slowly lost to the analogs of history.
