10 Most Meta Moments In Supernatural
8. LARPing And Puppy Dog Eyes - The Real Ghostbusters (S5E9)
It's not just reality hopping that makes this show so meta: season four introduced the madness that is the Supernatural book series. Yes, Supernatural exists inside of Supernatural, and, just as it is in our world, the books have quite a following.
Season five expands on this world of fandom with the introduction of 'fangirls' like Becky Rosen, actual references to fanfiction, and of course the staple of the real life Supernatural experience: conventions.
The two brothers are tricked into attendance of one such convention by the aforementioned Ms Rosen, who thinks it would be such a great idea to have the real Winchesters attend the event essentially held in their honour.
They're less thrilled, however, since it's packed to the brim with Winchester LARPers trying to be The Most Winchester, monster cosplayers, and discussion panels on the "homoerotic subtext" of the books. (Supernatural loves to reference its blatant Queer coding, but refuses to actually act on it until the last second.)
Our world's conventions are pretty fun, and any SPN fan worth their salt could admit to hours of scouring YouTube for the best of Asylum and Jus In Bello panels. It's doubtful that they could live up to a con attended by the real Sam and Dean Winchester, though.
