6. God's Favourite Show - Moriah (S14E20)

Supernatural The French Mistake
The CW

The introduction of the Almighty was inevitable for this show, but it was done sneakily much earlier than anyone realised - unless you subscribed to the theory way back in season five based on his heavenly white suit. Eventually, Chuck Shurley was revealed as the big guy Himself.

This initial revelation was accompanied by the fun equation of God with audience, and Chuck's "favourite show" was, basically our Supernatural - even down to the criticisms fans had at certain choices..

"I built the sandbox - you play in it. You want to fight Leviathans? Cool. You got that. You want to go up against - what was it? - the "British Men of Letters"? Okay. Little weak, but okay. But when things get really bad, like the Apocalypse or the Other Apocalypse, that's when I have to step in."

Of course, it wouldn't be Supernatural if the creator of all things ended up being a complete a-hole. and unfortunately while Chuck is indeed all powerful, he's also highly manipulative and very bored. Living for so long maybe does get tiresome, so he turned to creating his own little screen play in the form of the Winchesters' lives.

The showrunners have never been averse to writing themselves in - there's a character called Bobby Singer, for goodness sake - but the extended metaphor of God as writer was really on the nose.
