Game of Thrones had countless pause-worthy moments throughout its conversation-dominating run, from brutal violence to graphic nudity, not to forget its beautifully designed world.

But ultimately Thrones' most-paused and lingered upon moment had nothing to do with the world of the show itself - it was just a damn coffee cup.

In the season eight episode "The Last of the Starks," a cup of java was spotted by eagle-eyed fans during the banquet scene, having been accidentally left on a table near Daenerys (Emilia Clarke).

The scene was unsurprisingly widely ridiculed by fans who were already losing patience with the hurried eighth season, such sloppiness seeming to confirm the sentiment that the final batch of episodes were rushed through without sufficient care.

Screengrabs of the offending gaffe quickly went viral, and though HBO digitally erased the coffee cup within two days, the damage had clearly already been done, and the episode was rendered a laughing stock regardless.

Clarke claimed that her co-star Conleth Hill, who played Varys on the show, admitted to causing the mistake, though he's since denied any wrongdoing. The mystery continues.
