10 Most Pointless American Horror Story Characters
8. Charlotte Brown (Asylum)
Charlotte is brought into the Asylum with the shocking revelation that she is actually Anne Frank, alive and well, having survived the Holocaust. She almost convinces much of the staff until the arrival of her husband who assures everyone she is merely an overworked new mother that became obsessed with Anne Frank after reading her diary and seeing a stage production.
However, Charlotte may be onto something when we see Briarcliff’s own Dr. Arden in one of her many obsessively displayed Holocaust photographs.
That’s the problem with Charlotte’s story: the fact that Dr. Arden may be a Nazi is really the only lasting impact her story has. It’s true of course, he is, but the revelation did not need a two-part episode involving an otherwise entirely irrelevant character to tell us this.
Asylum’s story would, for the most part, grind to a halt here, for a story of a woman who, for the rest of the series, has no further impact. Whether or not the use of the real Anne Frank’s name is tactful is has no bearing to the fact that that when it comes time for a re-watch, this two-parter is worth skipping.
