10 Most Pointless American Horror Story Characters

7. Chester Creb (Freak Show)

American Horror Story
FX

You know who’s awesome? Neil Patrick Harris. Wherever that guy shows up, be it movies, TV shows, or Halloween costumes on Twitter, he is going to be an absolute delight. In American Horror Story though he’s… fine.

Chester Creb is not a terrible idea for a character, it's just he once again has no impact. His only function to the plot is to kill Maggie. This was something that needed to happen, but his place in doing it was pretty pointless.

Chester is a delusional ventriloquist/magician who believes his dummy, Marjorie, is talking to him with persuasive thoughts of killing the twins Bette and Dot. One series of convoluted events later, Maggie ends up in the sawing box meant for them, Chester loses his mind, Maggie loses her guts, and Chester “kills” his puppet before turning himself into the police in a state of overwhelming guilt. It’s a strange and anticlimactic end to a strange and anticlimactic character.

Here’s an interesting fact: the American Horror Story team originally wanted Neil Patrick Harris and his real life husband David Burtka to play the bickering gay couple in Murder House, but NPH turned it down as he and Burtka had performed a similar role as fictional versions of themselves in A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas and he didn’t want to get typecast as the angry gay couple.

Actually, it's not that interesting a fact, but it’s more interesting than anything he did as Creb in Freak Show.
