The Silence are one of the creepiest and most unforgettable Doctor Who villains from recent years, which is particularly impressive when you consider that you forget about them the moment you look away. 

Of course ‘The Silence’ refers not just to the race, but also the cult-like movement whose purpose is to kill The Doctor, and prevent the prophecy of the question being asked. That question: Doctor Who?

They were responsible for Melody Pond becoming River Song, and it’s shown that they’ve been lurking in the shadows throughout history, manipulating the development of humanity to suit their needs. Without them who knows what the human race would actually be like? They've been able to influence some of the major events in human history, including (in The Doctor's opinion) the moon landing and could still be in the background even now. Maybe they're responsible for this entry?
