10 Most Re-Watchable Star Trek Episodes
5. Such Sweet Sorrow
The close of Star Trek: Discovery's second season went out with many very, very literal bangs. There is a lot to unpack in these episodes, but it is safe to say that, so far, these are two of the best episodes that Star Trek: Discovery has delivered.
The return of Po.
Seeing both the Enterprise and Discovery side by side.
Seeing two fleets target each other.
The arrival of the Klingons.
Spock and Burnham's final scene together.
The episodes pack a true emotional punch, along with all of the explosions along the way. It is the close of not just a great season, but the first era of Star Trek: Discovery. In a beautiful tribute to the wormhole scene in Star Trek: The Motion Picture, the Discovery warps off into the future with Burnham taking the lead in the red angel suit. The music soars and Captain Pike bids his friends farewell as they go.
The fact that the episode closes on the Enterprise's refit and return to Earth is a clever choice by the writers, hooking the audience so that they must return for the third season (although odds are, if you're still watching by the end of the second season, you're coming back for the third regardless!). It also gives a bit of a coda to Spock's story, while also teasing us with what Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is going to look like.
Brilliant viewing all together!
