5. Creepshow

In the 1980s Stephen King teamed with legendary horror director George A. Romero to bring us Creepshow – an anthology film designed in tribute to the old EC Comics. This was followed by a few sequels, each seeing diminishing returns.

Fast forward to the present and horror-streaming site Shudder have revived the property in series format with Walking Dead director and make-up fx guru Greg Nicotero at the helm. Taking a format with episodes being roughly 45 minutes and composed of two shorter stories, Creepshow captures wonderfully the nostalgic feel of EC Comics and of classic horror stories.

Stand out stories in the first season include the opening; Gray Matter (based on a short story by Stephen King), The Man In The Suitcase, Lydia Layne’s Better Half and Night of the Paw. The series has been renewed for a second season but this has unfortunately been delayed due to the COVID pandemic. Fortunately, season one is highly rewatchable and available on Shudder.
