10 Most Rewatchable Horror TV Shows
3. The X-Files
Much like Supernatural, The X-Files shouldn’t have been as big a hit as it was. It’s subject matter was genre fare and aimed firmly at nerds who enjoyed science-fiction, horror and conspiracy theory. Yet, a combination of great writing, innovative ideas and the fantastic pairing of David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson made The X-Files a run away hit.
You’d be hard pressed to find a show with better chemistry between its leading characters. Mulder and Scully just have an electricity about them, a powerful sexual tension that seems entirely natural, all the more so because it isn’t harped on about in the script (not in those early seasons, anyway).
Whilst it is true that the latter half of the shows run saw a decline in quality (once it became blatantly apparent that the writers had no actual plans for the shows long-running conspiracy story arc), those early years remain some of the best primetime TV ever produced.
Whilst the mythology episodes might not be so fun to rewatch anymore, knowing that it ultimately leads to nothing, the bulk of the show’s episodes are standalone “Monster-of-the-Week” affairs and these remain golden to this day. Standout episodes such as “Squeeze”, “Ice”, “Clyde Bruckman’s Final Repose”, “Duane Barry”, “Drive” and “Paperclip” to name just a few are absolutely worth a re-watch and the truth is much of the series is as well.
