10 Most Satisfying Star Trek Moments

5. The Romulan Drone Ship

After the on-form Xindi War story-arc, Star Trek Enterprise had worked its way into the hearts of many a disgruntled fan (theme song aside). The fourth season moved onto a number of two and three-part episodes that focussed on being an actual prequel to Star Trek The Original Series, something that it hadn't really done much of before.

In the episode Babel One (which was followed with United and The Aenar), the Andorians and Tellarites are at each other's throats because they both think that they have suffered attacks from one another. They have, in fact, been deceived. Both of them have been attacked by powerful Romulan Drone Ship, which forces Captain Archer to make humans, Vulcans, Andorians and Tellarites to work together to track down their attacker.

This storyline has two very satisfying moments, one where Tripp and Malcolm are trapped onboard the Drone and find that it is completely unmanned. While this may not seem obviously great, it manages to preserve the continuity for the statement made by Spock in The Original Series episode The Balance of Terror. Spock states that the war between the Federation and the Romulan Star Empire was fought without either side laying eyes on one another, with the treaty negotiated over sub-space. Nobody knew back then that Romulans and Vulcans were originally the same race.

While this is a satisfying moment, it doesn't beat the sheer joyous visual of seeing the Enterprise taking a beating from the Drone and being unable to pursue it, only to be rescued by a combined group of Vulcan, Andorian and Tellarite ships, all working together for the very first time. The moment when all ship jump to warp together, united, is warming to the soul.

Still bitter that Star Trek Enterprise got canned and almost old enough to angrily tell the kids to 'Get Off My Lawn!'
