By the latter days of the Dominion War, things became very grim for the Federation alliance. They had managed to invade Cardassian territory, losing many troops in the process but were facing mounting casualties. As the final days of the war dawned, Worf and Ezri Dax were freed from captivity by Damar.

Following the heartbreaking slaughter of Federation Alliance ships, including the USS Defiant, a message is beamed out across space.

In one of the most stirring scenes in Deep Space Nine, Damar calls on all Cardassians to stand up against the Dominion, citing the silent invasion of their homeland as the reason. From a powerful military race, they have fallen to subjugated slaves within the new Dominion-Breen alliance. They are little more than caretakers on their own soil and Damar will not have any more.

In a move designed entirely to strike at his personal foe Weyoun, he orders the destruction of the Vorta cloning facilities.

Damar rises from a guest spot as a background character to the leader of one of the largest forces in Star Trek. While it has been said that Roddenberry would have hated the Dominion War arc, Damar stands as an example of the brighter future that he always strove for. Even in darkness, there is hope. Damar, once the enemy of the Federation, becomes their last chance at a peace in their time.
