10 Most Shocking Hannibal Moments
3. Mason Remakes Face Off
It's not that Mason Verger deserved this - it's more like he didn't not deserve it.
Adding onto what was talked about before regarding Mason, he's the type of character that makes you want to put your fist through the screen and hit repeatedly. Him being so terrible is exactly what makes the moment where he, under the suggestion of Hannibal, eats his own face so satisfying. Disgusting for sure, but satisfying nonetheless.
Despite the catharsis of his self-mutilation and cannibalism, it's still a hard to watch scene. It really makes you wonder how they got it past the censors and onto NBC in the first place.
What makes it all the more memorable however is not the content itself, but rather actor Michael Pitt's performance. He plays Mason in a way that's reminiscent of the Joker. The sheer vibe of insanity coming off this guy is so palpable that you almost want to give him a standing ovation for it.
Going back to the Face/Off reference, Nicolas Cage would be proud.
