Now this list has covered the change in attitude in many of the Ted Lasso characters but the one who, by far, had the most drastic behavioural shift was Nate. Throughout the first season he grew in confidence but stayed true to those who had bolstered and supported him.

The first glimpse of his darker side came in the opening moments of the season 1 finale when he rather spitefully, and unnecessarily, calls Rebecca a shrew but it’s in the second season that we really start to see the shocking transformation of Nate The Great.

He, very subtly at first, becomes more and more hostile and uptight as the season progresses, developing aggressive habits such as spitting at a mirror and is needlessly unkind to Will, the very boy who stands in the same bullied position he once occupied. His most shocking moment though, is when he betrays the trust of Ted and anonymously reveals the details of his panic attacks to the press. This is the point of no return for Nate, the sad truth is that his own lack of self-worth has poisoned his ego to rise above those who helped to build it and, as a result, he has become the new villain of the show.

In terms of character development and compelling, unexpected storytelling this was truly the most shocking and unpredictable turn of events in Ted Lasso. Whilst the other characters grew into a more confident or open versions of themselves, Nate evolved into a completely new person, one unrecognisable in comparison to the timid, bumbling wallflower we met in the very first episode.
