When we are first introduced to Rebecca Welton she is cold and scheming with little regard for those who will be affected by her destructive agenda. Whilst the reasoning behind her sabotage is completely plausible and somewhat justified, it is clear that the pain she is suffering has changed who she truly is.

It is in the season 1 episode, Make Rebecca Great Again, that we start to see a glimpse of the woman she once was. By the admittance of her childhood friend, Sassy, she was once silly and playful, not cold and sensible. It is the influence of Sassy in this episode that leads to the shocking moment that we discover just how well she can sing.

As the team celebrate their win in Liverpool, they find themselves in a karaoke bar where Rebecca belts out a remarkable rendition of Frozen’s Let It Go. This is the first time she really lets her hair down and bonds with her team, revealing a much more easy going and free spirited side to herself and beginning to take responsibility for the stranger she had become as a result of her marriage and divorce.

Of course, this karaoke segment was likely to have been added once Hannah Waddingham, a well-established musical theatre star and remarkable vocalist, was cast in the role. And boy are we grateful for it!

Ellie has been part of the WhatCulture team since 2021 where she began as a freelance presenter for the WhoCulture channel. As a diehard Whovian with a BA (hons) degree in Drama and Acting, this role was the perfect opportunity for her to combine her screen presence training with her extensive Doctor Who knowledge. From there, she branched out to various other WhatCulture channels, including TrekCulture, and became a full time Content Producer/Video Presenter in 2023. Ellie is now a regular fixture on both WhoCulture and TrekCulture and has become a well respected public figure within both fandoms, building up a substantial following across her social media platforms and being given the opportunity to represent the channels and the wider communities at several industry events. Her favourite Doctor Who character is River Song and her favourite Star Trek character is Captain Janeway - which tells you everything you need to know about how she approaches her role within a generally male dominated field.
