10 Most Shocking Moments In Ted Lasso
7. Roy Hugs Jamie - Season 2, Episode 8
Now we’ve already established that Jamie Tartt is a hard man to like but the character who truly hates him the most is Roy Kent. Roy is a very irritable man. He doesn’t share his emotions and has an aggressive side that sometimes gets the better of him.
It is quite clear why these two players clash so much, which is why it was such a jaw dropping sight to see Roy pull Jamie into a completely voluntary embrace in the season 2 episode, Man City. A moment that arguably shocked those on screen even more than it shocked those off screen.
It was, however, absolutely the perfect moment to, temporarily, resolve their issues after the entire team witnessed the true abusive nature of Jamie’s relationship with his dad. Having Roy comfort him, as opposed to Ted, really emphasised the cruelty of Jamie’s dad who treated his son even worse than Roy ever did.
This was the first time we had really seen Jamie’s vulnerability and weakness and began to fully understand the reasons behind his arrogance and sarcasm, just as it was the first time we’d seen Roy express physical compassion and empathy. This really was a true turning point for both characters who seemed to maintain a, somewhat, steady level of respect for one another from this moment on.
