10 Most Shocking Moments In Ted Lasso
4. Ted's Dad - Season 2, Episode 10
As it turns out, Ted very much is hiding some trauma behind that façade.
The development of Ted’s panic attacks and the arrival of Dr. Sharon in season 2 suggested that at, some point, we were going to learn what was truly haunting him. Beyond the obvious devastation surrounding his divorce, Ted finally reveals all in the season 2 episode, No Weddings and a Funeral.
This scene was incredibly well written, performed and edited together. Spliced between Rebecca’s revelations about the cause of her hatred towards her own father, we learn that Ted’s father committed suicide when he was just 16 years old and that he witnessed the gunshot before discovering the body.
His revelation provides a lot of insight into the mentality behind Ted’s determination and commitment to helping people see the good in themselves, admitting that the guilt of not reassuring his dad of his strengths and not realising that he might be struggling is what made him swear to never let anyone suffer in silence again.
For a character with such a positive disposition, it is indeed rather shocking to discover the internal suffering that he has endured and truly leaves you wanting to give Ted that big hug he gets from Dr. Sharon.
