10 Most Sought After Doctor Who Missing Episodes

1. The Tenth Planet Episode 4

The Tenth Planet, like The Web Of Fear, is an almost complete story, with only a single episode missing. That episode just so happens to be episode four, which features the first ever regeneration.

Parts one to three of this tale are an incredible watch, as the Doctor encounters the Cybermen for the first time at a research base in the South Pole. The Doctor falls ill in episode 3, eventually waking up in episode 4 and, after destroying the Cybermen, declares his body to be wearing thin. In a first for the show, he then collapses in the TARDIS and transforms - or regenerates - into Patrick Troughton.

Thankfully, a short version of the first regeneration sequence exists, solely due to being included as a clip during a Blue Peter segment on Doctor Who in 1973 before the episode was destroyed.

After several hoaxes and rumours down the years - including an individual selling the BBC a videotape copy of the episode for £500, only to then provide the Beeb with a blank tape - the episode is still missing from the BBC archive.

Episode 4 of The Tenth Planet is not only one of the most sought after pieces of missing Doctor Who footage, but also one of the most wanted missing television pieces of all time.
