The first story to feature fan favourite second doctor Patrick Troughton, Power Of The Daleks features the Doctor dealing with the first on-screen instance of post-regeneration trauma.

Over six episodes, the Doctor manages to foil the Daleks’ attempt to take over a colony on the planet Vulcan, with confused companions Ben and Polly struggling to understand the Doctor's new body and the concept of regeneration. The story also introduces us to the many quirks of Patrick Troughton's Doctor, including his love of the recorder.

Power Of The Daleks was originally broadcast in late-1966, and thanks to its success, the Daleks and the concept of regeneration have remained with us ever since. The same cannot be said for this story, though, as all copies were destroyed between 1967 and 1974 by the BBC.

For Power Of The Daleks' 50th anniversary in late-2016, the BBC announced that a fully animated reconstruction of all the episodes in this story would be released, so fans would be able to experience Patrick Troughton’s first outing - albeit in a slightly lesser animated form.
