TV is an incredibly tough medium, as shows everywhere are picked up and dropped due to a significant number of reasons.

When a series is cancelled, it can either come as a great disappointment or an inevitable occurrence. Sadly for the following titles, 2020 has not been merciful, and despite either only just starting out, or even being an established series, these projects will no longer be continuing.

Although ratings and general reception of a TV show is mostly common knowledge in the modern age, there is still a lot that goes on behind the scenes which audiences don't know about, and as such news can arise which takes viewers by surprise.

The following entries may have been cancelled, but for the most part, it came as a shock to fans of the shows and general viewers alike. Hopefully, some of these great projects will see a return in some form, as watching a great story fail to conclude is utterly heart-breaking.

But sadly, for the most part, it seems that these TV products are doomed to fall into obscurity after their 2020 cancellations.

10. Penny Dreadful: City of Angels

Showtime

It came as a surprise to many that this show was even being made.

While the original Penny Dreadful series was well-received, it had ended in 2016, and seemed poised to stay that way. When a spin-off was announced, it was exciting, but the setting change to America, and lack of folkloric/literary supernatural connections was disappointing.

Still, it is surprising that this series didn't even manage to go past its first season, as the property is well remembered, and the cast was well-stacked. Yet low-viewing figures that plummeted throughout the first series' run appears to have been the final nail in this supernatural show's coffin.

This was likely the best decision, as the title did not live up to its first instalments standard. Although the original series may have had a controversial ending, it at least went out on its own terms. Sadly for all involved with City of Angels, it wasn't given the same opportunity.
