This incredibly ambitious TV show based on the classic Jim Henson movie was almost doomed from the start.
Despite some incredible fondness for the original title, a TV series telling the story of what lead to the events of the film would be incredibly expensive, and likely only reach a niche market, so making it was a big risk.
Sadly, that risk did not pay off.
Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance tells the story of three Gelflings who discover a terrifying secret behind the oppressive Skeksis regime that forces them to begin a revolution in the world of Thra. The world is vibrant, and the puppetry on display is unlike anything you've ever seen. It truly is a mind-blowing fantasy epic, filled with likable characters and creativity.
The cancellation is devastating, but sadly the Netflix viewership to the cost of renewal review struck with this expensive show, and meant it would not be continuing from the cliffhanger ending it closed on.
This is a massive tragedy as there are no other properties that capture the same charm and magic that Dark Crystal does.
