10 Most Terrifying Deaths In Modern Doctor Who

8. The Praxeus Infection

Doctor Who Praxeus

Not content with only one deadly virus in 2020, the Praxeus pathogen was intended to target plastic but had deadly effects on the human race.

Appearing in the self-titled 2020 episode, this bacterial disease overwhelmed human bodies, creating a cracked, rock-like effect across their skin. With the infection spreading rapidly, human victims were seen to burst and disintegrate into clouds of dust. Leaving only clothing and dust particles behind, this was a horrifying disease that humanity had no idea how to combat.

Revealed to be an alien pathogen intended to destroy plastic, Praxeus was released on Earth as part of an experiment by alien scientist Suki Cheng - whose home planet had been ravaged by the virus. Instead of only destroying pollution, Praxeus had begun to eat away at the microplastics within living things.

Developing a cure for Praxeus from bird enzymes, the Thirteenth Doctor managed to mass-produce it in the TARDIS and disperse it across the planet in jet streams.
