10 Most Terrifying Locations In Game Of Thrones

3. Old Valyria

Centuries before the events of Game of Thrones, Valyria was the capital city of the Valyrians – a race of people who learned to tame dragons and were skilled in magic and craftsmanship. But the city fell in the Doom of Valyria (a volcanic eruption), and since then it has been nothing but ruin.

As Jorah travels with Tyrion to Meereen, the pair of them sail through Old Valyria. The dark aesthetic of the ruins is creepy enough, but what makes the city truly terrifying is the presence of the Stone Men. A single touch from these creatures leads to being contaminated with greyscale, a disease which gradually deteriorates the body and mind of the victim until they also become a Stone Man.

Though Tyrion escapes unscathed, Jorah is contaminated with the disease and would have died had it not been for the efforts of Samwell Tarly at the Citadel.
