10 Most Terrifying NuWho Doctor Who Episodes
6. The Impossible Planet/Satan's Pit
The Doctor has faced many monsters throughout his life. However, no one expected him to face the Devil himself. The Tenth Doctor and Rose Tyler arrive on Krop Tor, a planet orbiting a deadly black hole but not getting pulled in by its gravitational pull. After losing the TARDIS, they find themselves stranded on a human base that keeps the telepathic aliens named the Ood as their slaves.
The Impossible Planet/Satan's Pit offers a slow-paced mystery as the Doctor and Rose try to figure out how the planet is still orbiting around the black hole without being pulled in. Throughout the episode, we see snippets that something sinister is going on. The Ood randomly states, "and you will worship him", and Toby, the teams' archaeologist, stands outside the space base without a spacesuit and ancient marking all over his face.
When the Doctor explores the planet's surface, he finds a large trap door leading down to where the beast or Satan is trapped. A ripple effect happens as the door opens with the Ood all now telepathically connected with the beast. They identify themselves as the Legion of the Beast and recite his verses as they advance on the crew members, killing some by electrocution by their translator ball.
With all the Ood and Toby possessed by the Devil himself, this double whammy episode brought a sense of dread and fear into the audience, many wondering who will live and who will die.
