10 Most Trippy Star Trek Scenes

9. Twisted Her Melon Man

Trippy 2 Kirk Motion Picture Star Trek
CBS

The whole concept of Voyager's season two episode Twisted is one that bends the brain.

Encountering its 'Anomaly of the Week', the crew finds the ship layout changing, ending up in places they were never heading for.

Scan results show that Voyager is being contorted with the ship enveloped from the outside in and leaving the main characters to retreat further inboard. At one point however, Janeway forces open a Jefferies Tube hatch to be confronted with the oncoming cosmic wave and is quite literally pulled out of shape. As this happens, Janeway is twisted this way and that, growing a super long arm, and nearly being able to reach the shuttlebay from the bridge.

The scene of Janeway's Stretch Armstrong impression is both deeply weird and horrific at the same time. It's only made all the more inexplicable once the final scene of Twisted point blank stamps the fact that all the crew needed to do from the start was absolutely nothing.

Intense electro-magnetic charge or not, the sight of Janeway's arm Twisted and bending into the distance cliffhangs the third act with strange vibes, and full credit to Kate Mulgrew for pulling this acting challenge off given the wibbly wobbly material.

A Star Trek fan from birth, I love to dive into every aspect of the franchise in front and behind the screen. There's something here that's kept me interested for the best part of four decades! Now I'm getting back into writing and using Star Trek as my first line of literary attack. If I'm not here on WhatCulture then you're more than welcome to come and take a look at my blog, Some Kind of Star Trek at http://SKoST.co.uk or maybe follow me on Twitter as @TheWarpCore. Sometimes I force myself not to talk about Star Trek.
