Trippy 2 Kirk Motion Picture Star Trek
CBS

One of Star Trek's lesser regarded first season episodes, The Alternative Factor has a saddening backstory that added to its legacy and led to the recasting of the central character of Lazarus.

Lazarus himself is fairly troubled with what appears to be a split personality rearing its head throughout the story and placing him into conflict with the crew of the USS Enterprise. What transpires is that there are (SPOILER) two Lazarus' (Lazarii?) with one attempting to eradicate the other.

What the viewer only sees In the episode's most bizarre moment, Kirk is sent through into the alternative anti-matter universe rendering him into a combination of neon and matt colours during the transition.

Cue lots of dry ice, slow-motion, and Shatner running back and forth for seemingly no apparent reason.

A Star Trek fan from birth, I love to dive into every aspect of the franchise in front and behind the screen. There's something here that's kept me interested for the best part of four decades! Now I'm getting back into writing and using Star Trek as my first line of literary attack. If I'm not here on WhatCulture then you're more than welcome to come and take a look at my blog, Some Kind of Star Trek at http://SKoST.co.uk or maybe follow me on Twitter as @TheWarpCore. Sometimes I force myself not to talk about Star Trek.
