Moving Along swiftly brings us to one of Deep Space Nine's most infamous first season episodes. Including a dancing, singing Sisko, and a game that actually has no real bearing on anything by the conclusion of the story, Move Along Home is nothing if not entertaining.

Allamaraine!

However, sidestepping THAT hopscotch routine for once, the subsequent challenge is even more "out there! as the quartet of Sisko, Kira, Bashir, and Dax enter a room hosting a charming party. This is seemingly the safer path, chosen by Quark in the real world, but it ranks even higher on the weird scale. As Kira grows increasingly angrier at the incessant laughter and lack of answers to her questions, the room begins filling with poisonous gas.

The four officers are struck down by the fumes the Wadi leader insists they do indeed Move Along Home, continuing to laugh and guzzle their beverages. Add in some of the haunting string section musical accompaniment and this goes into surreal territory by the mile.

Director David Carson, who also helmed Generations and DS9 pilot Emissary manages to work in a few low camera angles to take the scene out of the standard run of the mill episode formula.

A Star Trek fan from birth, I love to dive into every aspect of the franchise in front and behind the screen. There's something here that's kept me interested for the best part of four decades! Now I'm getting back into writing and using Star Trek as my first line of literary attack. If I'm not here on WhatCulture then you're more than welcome to come and take a look at my blog, Some Kind of Star Trek at http://SKoST.co.uk or maybe follow me on Twitter as @TheWarpCore. Sometimes I force myself not to talk about Star Trek.
