10 Most Underrated Actresses Currently Working In Television

9. Stephanie Beatriz (Brooklyn Nine-Nine)

Orphan Black Helena
Fox

It's hard to stand out in a cast of looney tunes that makes up the bulk of Brooklyn Nine-Nine. In fact, it would be completely understandable if Stephanie Beatriz faded into the background entirely, leaving all of the comedic heavy-lifting to Andy Samberg, Joe Lo Truglio, and Chelsea Peretti. But not only does Beatriz hold her own as Officer Rosa Diaz, she frequently grabs the spotlight without having to try all that hard.

Oddly enough, her character's standoffish, no-nonsense demeanor allows her to have some really terrific, interesting chemistry with all of her fictional coworkers. Somehow that stony-faced aloofness makes Diaz the ideal foil for pretty much the entire police department.

Beatriz nails the kickass, confident, emotionally stunted portrayal as if she's been practicing for the role her whole life. Yet, behind the scenes, Beatriz couldn't be further away from the cold renegade she plays in the Nine-Nine.

It's likely the soft, sweet, sincere core of the actress that allows her character's inner affability to shine through, while giving Beatriz the chance to really flex her acting chops. And boy are those muscles huge.
