10 Most Underrated Buffy The Vampier Slayer Episodes
9. Lie To Me
This Season Two vehicle gives fans the chance to see just how complicated and dark Buffy's life has become. Her old school friend Ford has come to town and the pair reconnect. Unknown to Buffy, Ford is dying and wants to become a vampire to save himself.
Angel is suspicious of Ford, however, at first appearing like a jealous boyfriend until it becomes clear to audiences that Ford is hiding something pretty major. Whilst this should be the crowning moment of the episode, "Lie to Me" allows audiences to have a deeper look at the world Buffy inhabits, as Angel, Xander and Willow come face to face with a vampire-worshipping cult in the city's underground.
This sub-plot introduces fans to Chantarelle/Lily/Anne, whose arc extends into Angel and is one of the best, most subtle parts of both shows.
When Ford finally reveals himself to Buffy, it's a genuinely affecting moment and forces Buffy to make a devastating decision. The acting and the writing is great, considering it begins with a classic high school vibe and ends as a look at the true extent of human evil. It also gives Giles the chance to give a bleak speech about the ways of the world and that the good guys don't always win. It's riveting if heavy stuff that's well worth checking out.
