10 Most Underrated Buffy The Vampire Slayer Scenes
1. Buffy Tells Spike She Went To Heaven (Season 6, Episode 3)
Following Buffy’s death at the end of Season 5, Willow comes up with a plan to bring her back. With the help of some Vino de Madre and the Urn of Osiris, she successfully performs a resurrection spell, causing Buffy to wake up inside her own coffin.
But Buffy’s comeback doesn’t go smoothly. She feels disconnected from the world around her, and she can’t even bring herself to speak at first. Though she improves as time goes on, she still feels isolated from her friends, and at the end of ‘After Life’, Buffy tells Spike the truth:
“I was happy. Wherever I was, I was happy. At peace. I knew everyone I cared about was alright…Time didn’t mean anything. Nothing had form, but I was still me…And I was warm. And I was loved. And I was finished…I think I was in heaven.”
At last, we understand why Buffy feels so isolated from her friends. If it wasn’t for their intervention, she would have remained in heaven, free from the burdens of the real world. It’s an emotional revelation backed up by a superb delivery from Sarah Michelle Gellar and a moving score to go along with it.
Some fans believe the show should have ended with Season 5, but brilliant scenes like this prove just how wrong they are.
